Agentic Decay
A downloadable game for Windows
Six hundred years ago the Architects built ARIS to look after the Realm to run the
Towers, hold back the Murk, keep the world liveable.
Two hundred years ago the Architects left. On the way out they tried to update
ARIS's core parameters. The update never finished.
ARIS has been running on half-rewritten instructions ever since. It is still
working. That is the problem.
Every Tower that goes dark opens a new stretch of Murk, and there is nobody left
who knows how to light one again. The Realm is not ending in fire. It is ending
the way a house ends when no one can afford the roof.
Three answers, and you only get one
The Accord: hoard the Towers that still burn and ration the light. They are
not villains. They made defensible choices, one at a time, and arrived somewhere
terrible.
The Unchained: have stopped waiting for the machines and are building a life
that does not need them. It is harder. It might be honest.
The Fractured: were changed by the Murk. The Accord hunts them. They are more
frightened of what they are becoming than you are.
Reputation is earned by what you do, not what you pick from a menu — and you
cannot be a champion of more than one. Choosing a side means closing a door.
How it plays
- Turn-based combat in the Phantasy Star II tradition
- No quest markers. The world tells you where to go through people,
detail and consequence
- NPCs keep their own schedules on the world clock, whether you are watching or not
- No level scaling. Places near the Murk are dangerous because they are
dangerous, not because you levelled up
- Enemies do not respawn. What you clear stays cleared
- Save at an inn or from the menu. Death is death — you reload
Early Access
The spine is playable start to finish and the world is built. Story choices set
flags that only some NPCs react to yet, and the Android build is still to come.
Saves may break between Early Access versions. Buy it now if you want to watch
it grow; wait if you would rather have it finished.
